Pap smear how often

[00:00:00] It's cervical Cancer Awareness month. That is what your cervix looks like to your doctor. Kind of, it's not that clear, but let's talk about Pap S. Okay. How often do you need a pap smear? It's very confusing. Well, let me first say that how often you need a pap smear has nothing to do with how often you need to see your gynecologist.

You should still be seeing your gynecologist. I would personally tell you every year at the very most stretched out to once every two years. But every year is ideal because you wanna make a relationship with your gynecologist so that you know him or her very well. You feel comfortable, you've collabo.

So that if, God forbid, something comes up in your health history with your breasts, STIs, bleeding, your uterus, your cervix, your vagina, your vva, your mood, your bones, your hormones, you have a relationship. So please go see your doctor no matter what. Now, pap smear guidelines under 21, you don't need a pap smear between 21 and 29, you get a pap smear theoretically every three years.

If it's a pap smear alone, you do not need HPV testing. Then when we talk about the 30 [00:01:00] to 65 year old crowd, you get it. Pap smear alone every three years, or a pap smear with HPV testing every five. Now again, here's what's so confusing. Many of you are probably still getting pap smears every one to two years when you see your gynecologist and I, for one would say, I don't think that's horrible.

It is going against the guidelines and there are some downsides to it, like increased testing. But if it's what makes you go in to see the doctor, then maybe that's okay. Much more to talk about with this, we have to discuss it.
