Yup a period cup

[00:00:00] Good morning team. It's Monday, March 16th. I was supposed to be in London right now, but last I am here on our staycation, um, socially distancing in an engaging manner. So I figured we'd take this opportunity to talk about this. Do you know what this is? I feel like Mr. Rogers, do you know what this is?

Kids? Um, this is a menstrual cup. It sounds disgusting. If you have not heard of it, please look it up. It is fascinating, and I resisted it for years until a decade ago when I finally succumbeded, because as a 40 year old, as I started to bleed more heavily, what happened to me is what happens to a lot of you that you tell me you're bleeding so heavily.

The tampon doesn't absorb, the pad, doesn't absorb. You're getting irritated by the pad. The clot comes out around. Tampon and then you're wasting money and it's gross and it's causing irritation, so hence the cup. There are menstrual cups, there are menstrual discs, they call them. The disc is a little bit more of the shape of a diaphragm.

If you haven't seen it, it's a little flatter. They claim that it's easier to take in and out. I haven't used it, so I don't know. [00:01:00] And I am not endorsing any one brand. This is merely the one that they had on sale at Whole Foods that I had bought 10 years ago, though. This is a brand new one. Okay. So it's about $35.

This will last you your, like they say 10 years, I think longer, but they have to cover themselves and say 10 years. It's made of silicone basically. And so I think silicone, some kind of rubber, my hands are so like man handsy in this view. So basically, You take it, the purpose of it is that it's supposed to collect your blood.

Now why would you say this is that size, the size of a shot glass? Because guess what ladies? Women think that they bleed the amount of a coke can. When we are pulled by and large we all say, oh, size of coke can size of a Coke can. And that makes sense cuz it seems like a lot comes out. But in fact, when they have been able to quantify it, it is the size of a shot glass.

That's how much blood comes out. You take this, I cut off that little nubbin because it's not a hole. I don't really know it's purpose, and I found it to be cumbersome. You literally fold this. You put it in, you let it pop [00:02:00] open, and then if you can imagine if this is your uterus and this is your cervix, it sits right there and the blood gets collected and then at the end of your day, I mean many women are able to use this for straight 12 hours.

They go in, pinch it to break the. Pour out the blood and then you rinse it so it's not sterile because your vagina is not sterile. It doesn't need to be sterile, but it manages to collect the blood and the clots. It is. Much better for the environment. Cause you're not throwing out pads and tampons and wrappers and the part that comes off the sticky part.

Um, not to mention access like in third world countries, they don't have access to that. So I really think we should all band together. And I'm, I know there is a non-profit, but I would love to figure out how to get access to these wholesale if anyone knows or even donated. To send them to these countries.

Um, but again, this is really a remarkable thing. Like for those of you who don't know about it or don't use it, it's amazing there are so many different brands on the market. So I'm not endorsing any one brand and I really, really think you guys should try it out. It takes a little bit of a learning curve.

The first time I [00:03:00] tried it, I actually couldn't get it out cuz I arrogantly did not read the instructions. So I urge you to read the instructions and I didn't know about breaking the suction and I was like, I can't get it out. Oh my God, I'm gonna have to have my partners take it out. And my partners like my brothers.

And I was like, Anyway, it all worked out. Read the instructions. Okay. Menstrual cup, good for the environment. Absolutely safe. Does not let, allow increase the risk of toxic shock. You can use it with your i u d. That's often a question. Some people worry that it will kind of suction and pull the i u D out.

There may be anecdotal cases of that, but by and large, that is not the, the situation. Um, and it's, and it's gonna save you money. I mean, literally $35, this will last you 10 years. Okay? Hope that helps.
