Strapping your arms with a c-section

[00:00:00] Last week I did a video about the five things that are misconceptions about C-sections. And I said, we do not strap your arms down during the C-section because in 23 years of doing this, and in talking to the colleagues that I have known across the country, people weren't doing it. I don't like to use the term strapping down because that sounds so barbaric.

When in reality what happens is your arms will be on arm boards and in many institutions they're not. In some institutions, here's my data. They do still strap. Here were the numbers of respondents. In a poll I did on a private group of doctors, literally across the country, 81 doctors responded. 62 said, no, they do not strap.

50. One of those 62, like our institution, were absolutely not, we don't strap. And 11 of them said we leave the straps loosely so that the patients can actually choose sometimes to hold onto them because some patients actually like that. 14 unfortunately said they still strap and it was a variety of reasons.

It's not, or strapping the patients down. It was for safety reasons. They felt [00:01:00] because in their practice, They had seen times where the patients had moved their hands and sterility was an issue. Sometimes it's also just up to anesthesia and we're gonna have to make a sea change and hopefully we got people thinking and talking about this, and five said it really depends.

So there you have it. Thank you for pointing it out to me. Those of you who have done it, this is gonna go on my list of things I've learned from my patients.
